We will start out with a review of how kitesurfing works, followed by a discussion about controlling the speed and power of a four-line kite. We will discuss power strokes and review relaunching the kite from the water. Some time will be dedicated to learning to stay safe in a dangerous sport. Discussion points will include: -- How to avoid smacking into hard objects. -- How to avoid cutting yourself or others with kite lines. -- How to avoid the most common problems or recover from them. -- Different options for self-rescue and when to employ them to return to land. First Flight Equipment: Small trainer kite or small four-line kite Tasks: Controlling the kite's power by moving it through different patterns. Hooking in and out of your harness. Launching and landing the kite and relaunching from the water. Flying the kite with one hand and flying the kite by feel. Body dragging down wind. Power strokes used for waterstarting and kitesurfing. Body dragging across the wind. Kitesurf Monday |
