Beginner Series
If your kiteboarding goal is to reach a basic skill level with solid control of the kite and be able to go kiteboarding on your own safely, you should expect to need three to five lessons.
Having experience in other sports that involve sailing or flying is an advantage. Experience in wakeboarding, waterskiing, surfing and other water sports can help accelerate your learning. Experienced athletes tend to get to a basic level in three lessons or a more proficient level (kiteboarding upwind) in 5 lessons. Some people have flown 2-line kites for hundreds of hours and can translate this experience directly into kite control. They can reach a basic level in two lessons and kiteboard upwind in three lessons.
If you are almost up and going, but cannot stay on the board, you might want a single lesson.
We will start with a quick description of how waterstarting should work, followed by a demonstration, and then a series of exercises that lead you toward waterstarting and moving across the water under control.

Intermediate Series
The intermediate series covers stance, turns, going upwind, and Introduction to Kiteboarding The Gorge.
You can cover that one trouble spot in a single lesson or work through the whole series each morning during a week. Two lessons can be just the right amount of time to learn about kiteboarding the Columbia River and the special skills that can make it more fun.
If you were feeling confident kiteboarding in gentle ocean winds on your last vacation, but don't have the experience to tackle the strong winds of The Gorge, the Introduction to Kiteboarding The Gorge lesson will make your stay in the Gorge more fun and make you a stronger and more capable kiteboarder.

Advanced Series
For more advanced kiteboarders, we offer a combination of subjects including Controlled air, Generating more power, Kiteboarding in radical winds, Working with big swells, and Guide Service.
These lessons will help the experienced kiteboarder have more fun and become confident in a wider range of conditions.

3-hour Buddy Kiteboarding Lessons $225 per student
In a buddy lesson two students share one instructor. This works on the first lesson, but we strongly recommend switching to private lessons after your first lesson. You will learn much faster in a private lesson because you can safely use a larger kite when under direct supervision of an experienced instructor. If the instructor is focusing his attention on one of two students for only a few minutes the other student tends to get into trouble. If that student has a big kite they can get into in big trouble. We normally use smaller kites in buddy lessons, this slows down the learning process. If you would like to learn at the same time as your friend and are sharing a ride, we can run two privates simultaneously with two instructors. This gives you the best value for your money and the fastest and safest path to your goals. |
