Hi, I'm Mark and I take people kiteboarding and windsurfing in The Gorge. As the owner of Gorge Wind Guide Service and Gorge Kiteboard School, I have been guiding and teaching windsurfing since 1995 and teaching kitesurfing since 1999. With over 1,800 days experience windsurfing, kitesurfing and teaching on the Columbia River, I can help you have more fun and learn new skills in The Gorge. |  |

I will tailor each lesson to you, focusing on the skills and techniques you need to kiteboard at the next level safely. I am a certified kiteboard instructor and have over six years of experience teaching kiteboarding in Hood River with an unblemished safety record. I will carefully develop a program custom-designed to utilize the skills and experience you bring to the sport. As you progress through the learning process we will refine your lesson program to match your needs and accomplish your goals. I will give you the skills to kiteboard with confidence and safety as you continue to learn new moves in this exciting sport.

Your safety is our number one priority both during your kiteboard instruction and after you are on your own. I will give you a strong foundation in kite flying skills which will allow you to generate more power with smaller kites and maintain control in sudden gusts. You will be trained in safe rigging, launching and riding practices to keep you out of danger. Kiteboarders can get seriously injured when they make basic mistakes and are dragged into rocks, trees and buildings. We will review the most common kiteboarding accidents so that you can anticipate them and will be able to avoid injuring yourself or others. You will learn a full set of skills to rescue yourself so that you can return to shore with minimum hassle if the wind dies or something breaks.

Our program is focused on kite control will lead you to more fun over the long run. Instead of going for the instant gratification of trying to put you on a board on your first day, we will spend your time working with the kite. This will lead to better kite flying skills and a faster progression once you are ready for a board. Because you will have more control, you will not get stuck in the waterstart/crash cycle and you will be moving across the water in control sooner. Your kite flying skills will allow you to feel confident and you will have fewer frustrating days as you progress.

We work with kiteboarders of all levels from first time flyers, to those learning to make advanced transitions and big jumps. We can design a custom program for you, whether you are learning to waterstart and stay on the board or you have been kiteboarding for years and are working on advanced skills. Every year we help students who have transferred from other schools overcome weaknesses and gain confidence. We often work with students who have kiteboarded in light wind locations but want to learn to deal with stronger winds safely.
